London Luton Airport noise insulation schemes

London Luton Airport has published its two Noise Insulation Schemes; the Residential Sound Insulation Scheme and the Community Buildings Sound Insulation Scheme.
In line with the Airport’s objective to help reduce noise levels inside those properties most affected by aircraft noise, the final scheme has now been published and is effective from 1st October 2006 to 30th June 2007.
The Airport published draft proposals in October 2005 to help mitigate any direct adverse effect of noise arising from existing Airport operations. Public consultation followed and many responses were received with the majority of comments welcoming the proposals. A number of positive suggestions for improvements were made and have now been introduced into the final scheme.
These include the possibility of providing roof acoustic insulation or some form of mechanical means to assist air circulation in addition to or to complement secondary or double glazing to windows. The financial cap on the Noise Insulation Schemes has also been increased and the Residential Scheme extended to include rented houses. These revisions address most of the concerns expressed by people during the consultation process.

We appreciate that it may not be possible to help in some instances, but would assure our local residents and communities that as part of our general policy we shall continue to encourage measures that will assist in alleviating the impact of noise throughout the community. I do hope that, where applicable, residents and communities will take up our offer.”
